Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (RTD)

Hon. Justice Mobolanle Abidemi Okikiolu-Ighile is a distinguished retired Judge of the High Court of Lagos State, known for her unwavering dedication to Justice, Legal Reform, and Public Service.

She was born on the 25th of July, 1957.

Education & Early Life

  • Began her secondary education at St. Anne’s School, Ibadan (1969–1973), continued at Christ School, Ado Ekiti (1973–1974).
  • Completed Basic Studies at Ibadan Polytechnic (1974–1975).
  • Earned her LL. B (Hons.) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1980 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in July 1981.
  • Notable student leader and active in Sports and Drama.


Legal & Public Service Career

  • Started her career at the Lagos State Ministry of Justice (1982).
  • Obtained certificates in Legislative Drafting (NIALS, 1986) and Comparative Legislative Drafting (University of London, 1991).
  • Played a pivotal role at the Lagos State Law Reform Commission and contributed to the Laws of Lagos State.
  • Recognized with a State Government Award of Excellence (1994).

Key Positions Held

  • Head, Directorate of Legislative Drafting (1998).
  • Head, Directorate for Citizens’ Rights (2000–2002) – instrumental in securing justice in the Safiya Sharia Law Case.
  • Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) (2002–2008)
  • Convened the Administration of Criminal Justice Committee (2003), paving the way for the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (2011).
  • Served on various reform and rules committees.

Judicial Career

  • Appointed a Judge of the High Court of Lagos State on March 18, 2008.
  • Served in several divisions including Land & Chieftaincy, Commercial, Civil, and Criminal matters, and the Badagry Division (2015–2018).
  • Led the translation of Small Claims Court Practice Directions (2018) into Pidgin to enhance access to justice.

Present Position

  • Hon. Justice Omobolanle Abidemi Okikiolu-Ighile was appointed and sworn –in by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo- Olu on the 10th of January, 2025 as the Chairman, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission.

Personal Life & Interests

  • Widow and mother of two.
  • Volunteer teacher at RCCG CTL Parish, Lekki.
  • Enjoys reading, travelling, and humanitarian service.
  • Also lectures on etiquette and social behavior.
